Drasco, when seizing land in 2005 for the proposed East Side High School. The case centered on a dispute over valuation of the property in the city's Ironbound section, which had been zoned for commercial development, but was likely to receive a variance or zone change for use as residential property. JAGR Realty appraised the property at $4.5 million, but NJSCC offered slightly under $2.1 million. The jury awarded nearly $3.3 million to JAGR Realty.
Recently, a Superior Court Judge in Essex County in C.D. Development v. City of Newark, entered judgment in favor of a property owner represented by Mr. Drasco, declaring that the City of Newark improperly designated the land in question, "[A]n area in need of redevelopment."
